WA Sales Representative

Individuals wanting to operate as sales representatives or property managers in Western Australia are required by law to be registered before working in the industry. An application for a Certificate of Registration must be made to the Real Estate and Business Agents Supervisory Board (REBA) and be accompanied by the appropriate registration fee and contribution to the Fidelity Guarantee Account. These fees are subject to change and updated information can be obtained from the REBA website at www.reba.wa.gov.au.

Course content and outcome

The current minimum education requirement to work as a sales representative is successful completion of each of the following modules from the CPP07 Property Services Training Package:

• CPPDSM4003A - Appraise property 
• CPPDSM4007A—Identify legal and ethical requirements of property management to complete agency work
• CPPDSM4008A — Identify legal and ethical requirements of property sales to complete agency work
• CPPDSM4012A — List property for sale
• CPPDSM4014A — Market property for sale
• CPPDSM4022A — Sell and finalise the sale of property by private treaty
• CPPDSM4080A — Work in the real estate industry.

Registration requirements

To be registered as a real estate and business sales representative you must:

(a) be 18 years old or over;

(b) be a person of good character and repute and a fit and proper person to hold a certificate of registration (See below); and

(c) understand fully the duties and obligations imposed by the Real Estate and Business Agents Act 1978 on persons involved in negotiating real estate transactions and business transactions.

Good character and repute requirements include providing a National Police Clearance certificate and a statutory declaration disclosing any previous convictions, pending proceedings, reprimands and etc.

The cost of applying for Registration as a Real Estate & Business Sales Representative with WA Department of Commerce is $243 (as of July 2017).

The Department of Commerce advises that the processing time for an application for a Real Estate Sales Representative is 4-6 weeks.
